The Power of Introvert Strengths
So much is talked about that introverts need to get over such as their quiet nature and just go network like everyone else. Here I am going to discuss introverted strengths.
Knowing what your strengths are helps you to not focus on your weaknesses. As a fellow introvert and with experiences from other introverts, I will go over some common strengths. Having an awareness of what you are good at gives you an advantage.
Observation:
Believe it or not, many people don’t have the skill of observation. This is due to being taught to be more extroverted by socially dominating conversions. You can’t talk and listen at the same time. Having the ability to listen and carefully observe others helps you become better at social awareness.
When I was a kid, I grew up in some pretty rough areas with constant danger. I survived those dangers by observing. I observed that everyone in my neighborhood was playing a character. I knew who all the drug dealers, crackheads, gangsters, and gossipers were.
I studied them carefully by the skill of observing them. Having the skill of observation can help read most situations, especially socially faster than most can. When you can’t observe what is going on right in front of you, you become blind to reality and that blinds you from any potential dangers that may lay ahead.
Benefits of Observing:
- You are able to quickly recognize potential threats right away
- You are able to grasp and quickly understand information that is given to you
- You catch small things that most people miss
Recognizing Patterns:
Everything and everyone has patterns. Being able to see patterns helps you solve problems because you can already see what is working. The next step is to poke holes in the patterns and find weaknesses.
LeBron James is one of the greatest basketball players ever. It isn’t his physical gifts that make him great, it is his high basketball I. Q. which partly is him recognizing patterns in his opponents’ habits and tendencies. When you can’t see patterns, you open yourself up to continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Recognizing patterns helps you transition from a mistake to learning a lesson faster than others.
Benefits of Recognizing Patterns:
- Seeing patterns helps you break down complex problems into simple solutions
- Seeing patterns helps you prepare for what may be coming next
- Seeing patterns gives you enough data to make sound and decisive decisions
Creative Problem Solvers:
Being a creative problem solver is a valuable skill in many industries. You give companies a fresh innovative look at handling complex problems. This is one of the biggest introvert strengths.
When I was in high school, I had an undeveloped personality due to my introversion. This was my complex problem. I compiled a list of all my favorite musicians and actors’ video interviews and studied those interviews like a test. I took and copied parts of their personality and added them to my own. That was my creative solution to a complex problem.
The more complex a problem is, the more mental energy is spent on trying to find a solution. Most people tackle problems from a logical perspective. It usually takes out-of-the-box thinkers to find multiple solutions.
Benefits of being a creative problem solver:
- Not being attached to one form of solution
- Being able to see a problem from various fresh perspectives
- Creates possibilities to discover or create something innovative
Strong Communicators in Writing:
Being able to communicate strongly is perceived to be of high value. For introverts, this comes in the form of written communication.
The reason why writing is an introverted strength is because of the vivid imagination that introverts have. When this is combined with alone time, great writing is usually the result. Not being able to communicate in any form leaves you feeling trapped. Communication is an extension of who we are. It is also a form of self-expression.
Benefits of being a strong communicator with writing:
- You always have a tool to gain clarity
- Your thoughts and ideas will be expressed clearer
- You develop the skill of copywriting and persuasion
Self Motivated:
In a world where extrinsic motivation is fleeting, intrinsic motivation will carry you further along any path.
When you look at the fitness world, most people are motivated by extrinsic motivation. Compliments on their physique are an example of extrinsic motivation that keeps some fitness-minded people motivated. While others enjoy the grind and the physical pain of rigorous exercising. This is considered intrinsic motivation. This motivation leads to self-motivation.
When you can’t motivate yourself, your habits are all over the place. Introverts don’t have this problem as this is one of their natural strengths. Introverts are stubborn and they use their vivid imagination to keep themselves motivated in any tasks they perform.
Benefits of being self-motivated:
- You are more emotionally stable because you don’t let outside influences dictate your motivation
- You don’t need constant direction and guidance from others
- You are more resilient than others due to being self motivated
